Record Breaking Diamond

In 1999 some people found a rare pink diamond in an African mine. The diamond is vivid pink and is the largest polished diamond in it's class.

It took 20 months to cut to its oval shape. It is 59.6 carats.

It was unveiled on 29th May 2003 to the public in Monaco.

The diamond has recently gone under the hammer and took just 5 minutes to sell.

It sold for NZ$101 million. It is the most expensive diamond in the world to be sold at an auction.
